Requirements: Marginalization in the Sciences; Gender, Class and Race

               





1. Active class participation and contribution to the discussion. Students are expected to be well prepared and able to provide textual support for their discussion contributions.


2. Students prepare a group presentation of a portion of the readings (no longer than 15 minutes).


3. Students write short response papers (2 pages, double spaced) that summarize the main arguments of each of the sessions.


4. Students write a short final paper (7-10 double spaced pages) drawing on the theories and readings we have studied. You can critically engage with an argument, article or book chapter or you can apply the theoretical frameworks we have discussed to gender/class/race questions of your choice. Final papers are due on May 15th and should be emailed to the email address provided above. Late papers are not accepted.


Grading: Attendance and Participation: 40%, Short response papers: 30%, Final paper: 30%


Statement on Plagiarism: Plagiarism, the unacknowledged use of someone else’s work as one’s own in all forms of academic endeavor (such as essays, theses, examinations, research data, creative projects, etc.), which may be derived from a variety of sources (such as books, journals, internet postings, student or faculty papers, etc.), is not allowed in this course.
